The browser grew up
It used to be that serious software meant a native binary. Today, the browser ships with GPU compute, fast local storage, push notifications, and a permissions model the average desktop OS would envy.
The new default
The practical effect: the browser is becoming the default runtime for new software. Not a fallback, not a "lite" version — the primary surface. Native still wins for some workloads, but the gap closed faster than most product teams planned for.
