When You Don’t Know What’s Next, Trust God
There are seasons in life when you have questions but no clear answers.
You pray, but the situation does not change immediately. You make plans, but things do not go the way you expected. You look at the future and wonder how everything will work out.
Sometimes, the hardest part is not knowing what to do next.
But faith was never about having every answer before taking the next step.
It is about trusting the One who can see what you cannot.
God Sees What You Cannot See
One of the most comforting truths in the Christian faith is that God sees the entire picture while we only see a small part of it.
Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds believers to trust in the Lord rather than depending entirely on their own understanding, while acknowledging Him in their decisions.
That does not mean planning is wrong.
It does not mean you should stop working toward your goals.
It means that when your understanding reaches its limit, God's wisdom does not.
You may not understand why a particular opportunity disappeared.
You may not understand why something you prayed for has taken so long.
You may not understand why your plans seem delayed.
But a delay does not automatically mean God has forgotten you.
Sometimes, what looks like a closed door is simply a direction you cannot understand yet.
Faith Is Not the Absence of Questions
Being a Christian does not mean you will never feel uncertain.
There will be moments when you ask:
“Lord, what am I supposed to do now?”
The Bible contains many stories of people who had to move forward without knowing exactly how everything would unfold.
Abraham was called to go without knowing the entire destination.
Moses stood before an impossible-looking situation and had to trust God.
David experienced seasons when the promise God had given him seemed far away from his reality.
The disciples followed Jesus without knowing everything that would happen along the way.
Their faith was not based on having complete information.
It was based on knowing who was leading them.
And that is an important lesson for us today.
You may not know what next month will bring.
You may not know how a difficult situation will resolve.
You may not know which opportunity will work out.
But you can still choose to trust God today.
Stop Trying to Control Everything
One of the biggest challenges to faith is our desire to control the outcome.
We want to know exactly when something will happen.
We want to know how it will happen.
We want guarantees before we move.
But sometimes God asks us to trust Him one step at a time.
Isaiah 41:10 reminds God's people not to fear because He is with them and will strengthen and help them.
Notice the emphasis: God's presence.
The promise is not that life will never become difficult.
The promise is that you do not have to face it alone.
There is a difference.
Christian faith does not guarantee a life without uncertainty. It gives us confidence that uncertainty does not mean God's absence.
Your Current Season Is Not Your Final Story
Maybe today you are looking at your life and thinking that you should be further ahead.
Maybe you expected certain things to happen by now.
Maybe you are comparing your journey with someone else's.
Be careful.
Someone else's timeline is not God's timetable for your life.
Galatians 6:9 encourages believers not to become tired of doing what is good because there is a harvest in due time.
Due time.
That phrase matters.
Not necessarily your preferred time.
Not necessarily the time you expected.
But the right time.
Keep doing what is right.
Keep praying.
Keep learning.
Keep working.
Keep serving.
Keep believing.
And while you wait, do not assume that nothing is happening simply because you cannot see the result yet.
What Should You Do When You Don't Know What Comes Next?
When the future feels uncertain, start with what you already know.
Pray.
Bring your fears, questions and plans to God.
Do the next right thing.
You do not need to solve the next five years today. Focus on the step in front of you.
Stay faithful.
Continue doing what you know is right, even when the results are not immediate.
Avoid comparison.
Your journey does not have to look like someone else's.
Remember God's faithfulness.
Think about the moments when you thought you would not make it through something—and you did.
Sometimes remembering what God has already brought you through gives you the strength to trust Him with what comes next.
A Sunday Reminder
If you are entering this new week with uncertainty, remember this:
You don't have to know everything to take the next step.
You don't have to understand the entire plan.
You don't have to have every answer.
You simply need enough faith to keep moving with God.
Psalm 37:5 encourages believers to commit their way to the Lord and trust Him with the outcome.
So whatever you are facing today, take a breath.
Pray.
Do what you can.
Leave what you cannot control in God's hands.
And keep going.
The chapter you are currently living may not make sense yet.
But God is not finished writing the story.
Sunday Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for bringing me into another week.
When I don't know what lies ahead, help me trust You. When I feel uncertain, give me peace. When I become discouraged, remind me of Your faithfulness.
Help me stop worrying about everything I cannot control and give me the wisdom to focus on what You have placed before me today.
Guide my decisions, strengthen my faith and help me remain patient when Your timing is different from mine.
May this new week bring opportunities to grow, serve, learn and draw closer to You.
